Watering the Earth

Isaiah 55:9-11

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
    so my ways are higher than your ways,
    and my thoughts than your thoughts.
10 For just as the rain and the snow come down from heaven,
    and they do not return there
except they have watered the earth thoroughly
    and cause it to bring forth and sprout,
and give seed to the sower
    and bread to the eater,
11 so shall be my word that goes out from my mouth.
    It shall not return to me without success,
but shall accomplish what I desire
    and be successful in the thing for which I sent it.

Showers of Blessing

22 10 2013
  • There shall be showers of blessing—
    Precious reviving again;
    Over the hills and the valleys,
    Sound of abundance of rain.
  • There shall be showers of blessing;
    Send them upon us, O Lord!
    Grant to us now a refreshing;
    Come, and now honor Thy Word.
  • There shall be showers of blessing:
    This is the promise of love;
    There shall be seasons refreshing,
    Sent from the Savior above.
  • There shall be showers of blessing;
    O that today they might fall,
    Now as to God we’re confessing,
    Now as on Jesus we call!
  • Showers of blessing,
      Showers of blessing we need;
    Mercy-drops round us are falling,
        But for the showers we plead.
  • There shall be showers of blessing,
    If we but trust and obey;
    There shall be seasons refreshing,
    If we let God have His way.
  • Daniel Webster Whittle

The Shower

21 10 2013

The landscape, like the awed face of a child,
Grew curiously blurred; a hush of death
Fell on the fields, and in the darkened wild
The zephyr held its breath.

No wavering glamour-work of light and shade
Dappled the shivering surface of the brook;
The frightened ripples in their ambuscade
Of willows thrilled and shook.

The sullen day grew darker, and anon
Dim flashes of pent anger lit the sky;
With rumbling wheels of wrath came rolling on
The storm’s artillery.

The cloud above put on its blackest frown,
And then, as with a vengeful cry of pain,
The lightning snatched it, ripped and flung it down
In ravelled shreds of rain:

While I, transfigured by some wondrous art,
Bowed with the thirsty lilies to the sod,
My empty soul brimmed over, and my heart
Drenched with the love of God.

Righteous Rain

clouds

Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the Lord have created it.

Isaiah 45:8

rain in the forest

“And I will let the rain go down at its appointed time; they will be rains of blessing.  And the tree of the field will give its fruit, and the land will give its produce…”  Ezekiel 34:26-27 (LEB).
